Rose not only symbolises beauty and love, taking time to smell the roses can also make you more beautiful. Inhalation of rose’s main component of phenylethyl alcohol, citronellol and geraniol produces an anxiolytic effect by increasing serotonin levels in the brain and decreasing glucocorticoid levels producing a calming effect (Lizarraga-Valderrama, 2020). Hence, providing emotional space for self-love.
A randomised controlled trial done in 2014, had also shown that the scent of rose improves sleep quality by reducing sleep disturbances (Hajibagheri et al., 2014). These findings had shown the relaxing effect of the rose oil by decreasing glucocorticoid levels, which can be used to relief effects caused by depression and stress in humans (Hongratanaworakit, 2009).
Recent studies also show that the volatile organic compound in rose can result in enhancing skin OR2AT4 olfactory receptor too, reducing stress-induced skin fatigue which can result in a beautifying effect (Duroux et al., 2020)
The dew-drenched roses are picked at 4am and end before 10am as the rising sun evaporates their delicate magic leaving 50% lesser rose oil in them. Rose essential oil extracted is extremely precious as it takes more than 2000 freshly picked rose blossoms to produce only 1mL of rose essential oil.
