Creating a Signature Scent
Incorporating a signature scent into your branding strategy is a powerful way to elevate your brand identity and enhance customer experience. Here at Scent Journer, we are experts in scent design and we take pride in each fragrance creation.
Today, we shall look at how we work closely with brands to create a signature scent that best represents the brand’s vision and needs.
Signature Fragrance Development
Here at Scent Journer, we go through a lengthy scent design process to ensure that your bespoke fragrance is one that suits your needs and brand story. Here's how we get fragrance inspiration for your brand:
Brand Color
We will look into your brand colors and match fragrances/ingredients that evoke similar hues and emotions. For example:
- Pink: The soft elegance of roses, peony, and sweet floral notes.
- Green: The fresh vibrancy of green tea, grassy, and mossy accords.
- Blue: The serene essence of oceanic and watery scents.
- Orange: The lively zest of neroli, orange blossoms, and citrusy, spicy tones.
This thoughtful alignment ensures your scent perfectly complements and enhances your brand's visual identity.
Storefront/Moodboard Inspirations
We can also take inspiration from your current brand aesthetic, from existing storefronts, or a mood board of your envisioned brand aesthetic. Based on the style, design and colors, the narrative of your fragrance and the overall olfactory experience can change drastically.
For example, in our collaboration with Nesuto, we worked off Pantone colors that the business had chosen as their brand colors and from there decided on certain fragrance notes. The creamy brown-inspired chestnut and earthy notes such as patchouli and smokey wood, while the creamy white tones inspired a steamed rice accord.

Brand Values and Story
Fragrances are the perfect medium for indirect storytelling as they can have complex scent evolution, thus it is possible to draw inspiration from a brand’s origins story or values.
A brand focused on nature and sustainability will have a very different fragrance (likely featuring more earthy, aromatherapy notes) as compared to a brand that is focused on luxury and modernity (with more powdery floral notes).

Choosing the Right Fragrance
Selecting the perfect scent for your brand requires thoughtful consideration. Research shows that specific scents influence mood, perception, and behavior. For example, lavender promotes relaxation, while citrus energizes. By choosing a fragrance that aligns with your:
- Brand values
- Brand image
- Target audience
Businesses can enhance the customer experience and strengthen brand identity. At Scent Journer, we ensure your scent is unique, high-quality, and perfectly aligned with your brand's goals.
Integrating the Scent into Your Brand
Once you have a signature scent, it's important to integrate it seamlessly into your brand experience. This can be achieved through various touchpoints, such as:
- Retail Spaces: Diffusing the scent in stores, showrooms, or other customer-facing areas helps build an association with the brand during the in-person store experience
- Scent Product Lines or Gifts: Creating a product line featuring your signature scents allows customers to bring your brand into their homes, deepening their connection with your brand. It also serves as a thoughtful gift for important clients, strengthening rapport and associating your brand with positive emotions.
The Power of Scent in Branding
In today's competitive market, creating a unique and memorable brand identity is crucial for businesses to stand out. While there are a million different ways to make a brand memorable to customers and investors, one innovative way to achieve this is by developing a signature scent.
Lasting Positive Impression
The sense of smell is one of the most powerful and direct ways to evoke emotions and memories. All scents are perceived when fragrance molecules bind to olfactory receptors in the nose which send a signal to the olfactory bulb, where the brain processes scents. The olfactory bulb has direct connections to the hippocampus, which is the area of the brain responsible for memory, and the amygdala, which processes emotion. Thus when we smell something we’ve smelt before, it evokes both a memory and emotions associated with that memory.
Hence, by coupling scent with a positive store experience and emotions, the scent can become a potent tool for brands to create a deep and lasting connection with their customers.

1. Differentiate your brand
A signature scent can become an integral part of a brand's identity, much like a logo or a color scheme. When customers associate a particular scent with a brand, it creates a multi-sensory brand experience that is more engaging and memorable.
This sensory branding can differentiate a business from its competitors and build a stronger brand recall.
2. Enhance Customer Experience
A bespoke fragrance can transform a customer's experience from ordinary to extraordinary.
For example, a luxury boutique might use a sophisticated scent to create an exclusive and opulent atmosphere, while a spa could use calming fragrances to enhance relaxation. By appealing to the senses, businesses can make their customers' visits more enjoyable and memorable.
3. Foster Customer Loyalty
When customers have a positive and memorable experience, they are more likely to return. A signature scent can create a sense of familiarity and comfort, encouraging repeat visits and fostering loyalty.
Moreover, customers who enjoy the scent may also purchase related products, such as scented candles or room sprays, further reinforcing their connection to the brand.
